Episode 422- Expectations: Embracing the Unexpected in Life

Expectations

Today I talk about how setting expectations limits us and our abilities to enjoy life. Life is so good if we learn to just let things happen.

The story I think back to is when a Hurricane was heading in the same direction as we were on our vacation ... .What did we do? Listen….

Don’t let your expectations get in your way….it is time to enjoy life. Embrace the lightness and let go of the dark.

I hope you enjoy today's show.

Episode 421 - Dr. John Delony’s Perspectives on Managing Anxiety in our Life and Relationships

Dr john delony

Our conversation is finally LIVE for everyone to hear! I was so excited to connect with Dr. John Delony; I love his show and his latest book, Building a Non-Anxious Life. After a few back-and-forths to get scheduled, we sat down together and covered a wide range of topics. I enjoyed our discussion and I know you will too!

Dr. John Delony earned his Bachelor of Arts in humanities and psychology at Lubbock Christian University and his Masters of Education in higher education administration from Texas Tech University. He went on to earn two PhDs from Texas Tech University—one in counselor education and supervision, and the other in higher education administration.

After spending over twenty years in crisis response and leading students in higher education, John knew he wanted to help as many people as possible heal from their past trauma and live whole, connected lives. He now writes, speaks and teaches on relationships, mental health, anxiety and wellness. He also hosts The Dr. John Delony Show where he answers callers’ questions about all of the above, and serves as co-host of The Ramsey Show where he helps unpack the psychology behind finances.

When John isn’t working, you can find him hanging out with his wife and two kids on their farm in Tennessee, headbanging at some obscure concert, or obsessing over his new lifting routine.

Episode 420- Comparisons & Crossroads: Navigating Change in the Shadow of Others

When is it time to turn?

It was a real pleasure having the famous Dr. John Delony on my podcast, he’s a really nice guy but I went down the rabbit hole of…why is he a #1 podcast and I am not?

Do you ever compare yourself and afterwards you feel yucky?

I also talk today about living with addicts and how cunning, baffling and powerful the disease of alcoholism is.

We all get to a place where we have been complaining for so long about a person and their drinking…..The person won’t stop and what are you to do?

Episode 418- True Hearts: Embracing Valentine's Beyond the Glamour

Happy Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentine’s Day and please don’t use this made-up holiday to help you to define who you are in the negative ways it can. We need to fall in love with ourselves before we can love anyone else.

In today’s episode I talk about drinking in public and how inappropriate it is to get black out drunk even when our country's message is that it is ok! When in fact it isn’t ok! I tell a story about me being drunk in Europe and not remembering that trip and it is kind of sad.

Obsession with criticizing celebrities is another topic I dislike and how we can’t compare ourselves to what a billionaire’s life is. This isn’t beneficial!

I also talk about ways that we can stop hurting ourselves and one of the ways I discuss is staying away from social media when you aren't in a good state of mind.

I hope you enjoy today's show.

Jinhyun knows that his calling in life is to help prevent suicides.

As a mental health entrepreneur, he is one of many who are trying to help destigmatize mental health. As a coach, he explores where loneliness has disconnected us from the communities we love and provides language to reconnect.

It was such a pleasure meeting Jinhyun Shin. I promise you will love his story!

Angela Pugh has 8 months more of recovery than I do and we are both on such similar paths. It was a breath of fresh air when I first met Angela!

Episode 414- Redefining Roots: Tales of Change, Estrangement, and Embracing the Unknown

estrangement is tough

Life can be really difficult at times and we really have no control.

This week I delve into recreating what you had in a different time and place and how it feels to be estranged from your child.

The past couple of years have been very difficult with one of my children and I know that this is a taboo subject but it is so real for me…it is heartbreaking.

One thing that I don't do under any and all circumstances is have a DRINK! That won't make it better but talking about it sure does.
